Seishinryu Budo is a non-profit, non-competitive martial arts group dedicated to the physical, spiritual, and philosophical aspects of training. Rooted in traditional values, our practice is thoughtfully adapted for modern life.
We welcome students of all backgrounds—new or experienced, young or old—to experience this unique and holistic martial art.
We are proud to be based at the scenic and historic Ashburton Hall, where our dojo is located on the first floor (lift available), overlooking Ashburton Park.
Over the years, Seishinryu Budo has been actively involved in community and charity events, and we remain committed to serving both our students and the wider community.
Seishinryu Budo translates as “Spiritual School.” The dojo was originally based at the Sir Philip Game Centre, where it became one of the largest martial arts clubs of its time. It offered a wide range of disciplines, including Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, Kendo, Iaido, Muay Thai, Wu Shu, and associated arts such as Shiatsu.
After more than fifty-five years, changing circumstances forced us to leave the Centre. Although several dojos continued in clubs and colleges, shifts in council policies eventually made these locations unsustainable.
Through the dedication of a small core of committed students, Seishinryu Budo has endured—and continues today with the same spirit, depth, and purpose that has defined it from the beginning.
